Felabration 2020 has come to a close and the legend of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti lives on through his followers and his impressive body of work.
Fela’s commitment to fighting against injustice and corruption is evident in his music. The three day festival was mainly virtual, with artists and a few guests in attendance at the New Afrika Shrine, but a far cry from the usual army of music fans from in and out of Nigeria swooping the arena for one full week.
Fela Kuti’s legacy is left for the youths to carry on into the next generation and beyond, by his children and grandchildren and all those he continues to inspire.
The title of this year’s edition “Fight to finish – Fight to Win” could not have been more apt at a time when mass protests against police brutality and bad governance are on all around the country.
Many artists declared their support for the #ENDSARS #ENDSWAT #ENDPOLICEBRUTALITY #ENDBADGOVERNANCE movement and their love for Nigeria and belief in a better future.
