While the artist is currently on tour in the US, Fireboy DML‘s hit ‘Peru’ featuring Ed Sheeran debuts on this week’s Billboard Hot 100 at No. 79.
‘Peru’ makes history as the highest afrobeats entry into the Hot 100 and it earns the Nigerian superstar his first appearance on the chart.
Originally released in July 2021, ‘Peru’, produced by Pheelz on the YBNL label was well received by fans which followed the success of Fireboy DML’s previous catchy dance hit, ‘Vibration‘. ‘Peru’ was already enjoying huge airplay around Africa and was constantly on full blast at raves, house parties and beaches across the city of Lagos.
The remix with Grammy award winning Ed Sheeran undoubtedly added a thrust that has catapulted the track to an admiring global audience. His contribution is a merger with afrobeats that is breaking barriers, just as with many previous international acts.

A month after its remix, ‘Peru’ has over 31 million views on Youtube, topped Apple Music charts in the UK, and gathered 35 million Spotify streams.
Three afrobeats songs made it to the Billboard Hot 100 last year, WIzkid and Tems with ‘Essence’, Ghana’s Amaarae reached No 80 with ‘Sad Girls Luv Money’ and Ckay’s ‘Love Wantiti’ which was propelled by Tik Tok, it reached No. 27.
‘Peru’ has peaked at No. 1 on UK R&B Chart, No. 2 on UK Singles Chart, No. 11 on Irish Singles Chart, No. 3 on New Zealand Singles, No. 44 on Billboard Global 200, 49 on Canadian Hot 100.
