Wole Soyinka International Cultural Exchange WSICE 2020 has announced a Virtual Exhibition on its website, celebrating the Nobel Laureate at 86, from 13 July 2020 to 1 July 2021.
This year’s exhibition is titled ‘Timeless Memories; The Humanity of Wole Soyinka’. The exhibition title draws from the WSICE Theme “I Am Because You Are”. It aims to reinforce the commitment of the subject and the objective behind the WSICE program – which is primarily to educate young minds for a better tomorrow.
The exhibition will feature new illustrative works, some works from the November 2019 edition as well as an E-Art book that will be available for download for free on WSICE website.
The project, on its third installment, themed ‘Timeless Memories’ is an art series created and curated by Oludamola Adebowale to celebrate the legacy of Africa’s first Nobel Laureate (literature) and human rights activist and other well meaning individuals in Nigeria’s creative art industry. This year, it takes a new bearing due to the COVID-19 global pandemic and in accordance, a virtual showcase is propitious.
Adebowale, said in a press release, ”The idea of the ‘Timeless Memories’ project series is to celebrate the legacy of Wole Soyinka and the amazing body of work he has created in innovative mediums for this and generations to come.”
The series was launched in July 2019 with the ‘Timeless Memories: A Decade of Iconic Celebration’ exhibition which celebrated the 10th year anniversary of the WSICE and Soyinka’s 85th birthday. The Exhibition was attended by secondary school students, artists and stakeholders. An array of archival images spanning over 10 years of activities of the WSICE was on display.
The illustrative artworks around Wole Soyinka, alongside a 23-minute Documentary and a 17 ft Mural were on display last November at Freedom Park Lagos Island, themed ‘Timeless Memories: Elastic Effects of Wole Soyinka’.
