In the last months, the ever-growing Nigerian afrobeats music scene witnessed back to back hits, with fans moving to the best of sounds flowing over to other countries around the continent and beyond, while generating copy-cat videos and skits from all corners of the planet.

The Eyes of a Lagos Naija Afrobeats Top 20 is on Spotify for the listening pleasure of music lovers.

From Ed Sheeran reaching out to Fireboy DML for a remix of his hit track ‘Peru’, to Brandy featured on Tiwa Savage’s ‘Somebody’s Son’, these tracks gained global hit status, presenting Afrobeats to a new audience and followership.

Our 2022 Naija Top 20 features all the familiar hitmakers: Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, CKay, Timaya, Burna Boy, Davido and new acts that are rapidly catching up with the game. Of note is the fusion of afrobeats with South African amapiano, a phenomenon Nigerians love to jive to. Wande Cole’s ‘Come My Way’ is a refreshing showcase.

The previous year morphed into January, filled with hits and new entrants such as Portable Dr Zeh who turned out to be the revelation at the end of the year. His street anthem ‘Zazoo Zeh‘ with Olamide and Poco Lee is now a monster hit.

Joeboy’s runaway hit ‘Sip (Alcohol),’is one of the biggest afrobeats singles of 2021. It topped Apple Music’s streaming chart in 17 countries, reached Number 2 on Genius’ trending chart and Number 3 on Shazam’s Global Top 200.
