Daily Hustle, Bariga Lagos – Eyes of a Lagos Boy

Anyone who has experienced the sweet and sweltering Lagos weather knows that it is a force to be reckoned with. The bustling city is known for its tropical climate that can leave you feeling both sticky and enchanted.

The weather in Lagos is characterized by high temperatures and humidity year-round. Global Warming has been a huge factor as the planet itself has gotten hotter. Our green house gasses are being produced at an accelerating pace. Towards the end of the rainy season with temperature averaging 35°C and 80% humidity, it gets particularly hot in the months of November and early December before the dry harmattan season sets in. From the moment you step outside, you can feel the warmth enveloping you like a cozy blanket and you sweat profusely. The sun shines relentlessly, casting vibrant rays upon the cityscape.

Right from the month of October, there are events all around the city towards the Christmas season. The dry season boosts outdoor events because there are no disruptions unlike during the rainy season. But the season comes with heat, aggravated by regular power outages in many parts. While some may find the heat unbearable, others embrace it as an integral part of Lagos life.

Hydration is key. It is important to drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated and prevent dehydration that could lead to heat stroke. Carry a water bottle with you wherever you go and take regular sips to keep body temperature regulated. It is during these scorching days that you will find locals seeking refuge under shade, trees, staying more indoors or indulging in refreshing treats like ice cream or cold drinks.

The sweltering weather also influences daily routines and fashion choices. Lightweight clothing and accessories such as hats and sunglasses become essential to combat the heat. Those lucky enough to have access to air conditioning – they are truly living their best lives. This time of the year is big for the cooling industry.

Despite its intensity, there is something strangely captivating about Lagos’ weather. It adds a unique flavor to everyday life, making each experience more memorable. Whether you’re strolling along one of its vibrant markets or enjoying a breezy evening by the coast, there’s no denying that this hot weather is an integral part of what makes Lagos so special.

So next time you find yourself in this bustling Nigerian metropolis, embrace the heat, savor the sweat glistening on your skin, and let yourself be swept away by the charm of Lagos.
