Federal Palace Hotel, quickly became a social hub for the affluent, hosting numerous events, galas, venue for important meetings and conferences, including those involving government officials and international dignitaries.
The signing of Nigeria’s Declaration of Independence in 1960 was conducted in its boardroom, and the country’s official independence celebration ball took place in the hotel’s Independence Hall.
In the 1970s, the hotel was nationalized and underwent renovations and expansion to modernize its facilities. Casinos, more conference halls, a high rise building was also added to accommodate more guests with a floating lounge/restaurant built on the lagoon.
