The Legacy Arts Foundation (LAF) and The Osahon Okunbo Foundation (TOOF) are proud to announce the 20 selected artists for the “Old Masters by Future Masters” collaborative project, an intensive two-week art workshop taking place at Freedom Park, Lagos from July 7 to 18.
Curated by Eyes of a Lagos Boy, “Old Masters by Future Masters” is a joint effort supported by the Belgian Embassy in Nigeria. It aims to teach Nigerian artists the painting techniques of Flemish and Dutch Masters.
This workshop brings together painters from across Nigeria, whose works demonstrate originality, technical skills, and meaningful storytelling. These emerging artists will explore the timeless painting techniques of 15th and 16th-century Flemish and Dutch Painters.
Selected artists are:
Abimbola Sadiq, Adebayo Jude, Adenike Adeshina, Ambali Omotayo, Atiye Afolabi, Clinton Juwon, Daniel Oruwhone, Deborah Ifechukwu, Ekhator Fernando, Okhiulua Eromosele, Faith Omole, James Hannah, Jayeola Joshua, Jennifer Ihezuoh, Joseph Ogbole, Kator O. Godstime, Kupoluyi O. Vanessa, Oluwaseun Akinlo, Sodiq Abiola, and Bankole Emmanuel.
These painters represent the future of Nigerian visual arts. Through a series of hands-on sessions with master artists Prof. Wouter Steel and Dr. Bolaji Ogunwo, a group exhibition, and peer learning, the workshop aims to foster creativity, sharpen their painting technique, and build collaborative networks in the ecosystem.
The masterclass culminates in a vernissage on 21st July in Lagos, coinciding with Belgium’s National Day, where participants’ artworks will debut. This event bridges Nigerian creativity with European Old Master traditions, symbolizing a vibrant cultural exchange.
