Every archive holds stories worth revisiting. This week’s Photo of the Week is one of them.
Originally published in the early days of my website – 2016, this collection of sixteen photographs, taken across ten countries, reflects one enduring truth: humanity has always been on the move.
From the dawn of time, people have journeyed in search of food, shelter, safety, opportunity, adventure and connection. As our world expanded, so too did our ambition—not just to travel farther, but to travel faster. Every generation has devised new ways to shorten distances, cross rivers, climb mountains and bridge oceans.
Some of those solutions are sophisticated. Others are simple, ingenious and born of necessity. Together, they reveal the remarkable creativity with which people move themselves—and the things that matter to them.
From footpaths to carts, horses, bicycles, boats, trains, cars and aircraft, our means of movement have continually evolved. Yet the instinct remains unchanged: to reach what lies beyond the horizon.
These photographs capture just a few of the many ways humanity continues that timeless journey.
