IFFIZI’s new SS27 collection AFROSAMBA will arrive on the Africa Fashion Week London runway on 22 August with a special collaboration born six months earlier in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, between IFFIZI founder and creative director Sandra Alonge and Bahian fashion designer Biam Dhifá.
The story began in February 2026, when Sandra travelled through Brazil as part of the research and inspiration behind AFROSAMBA, a collection exploring the cultural connections between Nigeria and Brazil through colour, textiles, rhythm and movement. In Salvador, her former colleague and longtime friend Junéia Batista introduced her to Biam Dhifá, whose work immediately caught her attention.
They met at FALA, Artes e Design, a newly opened art, fashion and design gallery on Rua Chile, regarded as the oldest street in Brazil, in Salvador’s historic centre. The location itself seems fitting for a creative space that looks simultaneously backwards and forwards, bringing contemporary art and design into one of the most historically significant parts of the city.
The connection between the two designers was immediate. “We hit it off like a house on fire,” Sandra recalls. “We started talking about fashion, textiles, Africa, Bahia and the collection I was developing. I loved Biam’s work and his bracelets immediately, and within a few hours we were already talking about finding a way to work together.”
A contemporary vision of Bahia
The setting for that first encounter was an important part of the attraction. Curated by Tania Póvoa and Biam Dhifá, FALA brings together contemporary fashion, art, objects and design while remaining deeply connected to Bahia’s Afro-Brazilian cultural heritage.
Its concept, “Arte e design para o mundo” — art and design for the world — is reflected in a space that feels unmistakably Bahian while also being sophisticated, modern and outward-looking. Rather than presenting heritage as something static or nostalgic, FALA approaches it as a living source for new artistic expression.
That philosophy immediately resonated with IFFIZI. The Belgian-Nigerian brand has similarly built its identity around bringing cultural and textile heritage into contemporary fashion, combining African textiles and tailoring with a European design sensibility. Its philosophy, Na Shakara, celebrates confident self-expression and individuality.
The encounter also made sense within the wider story of AFROSAMBA. Salvador is a city where the historical relationship between West Africa and Brazil remains extraordinarily visible, with Yoruba influences woven into its culture, spirituality, food, music, dress and visual language. AFROSAMBA looks at those connections from contemporary Nigeria, across the Atlantic towards Brazil, and asks what that shared history can mean creatively today.
From Salvador to Abuja
After returning from Brazil, Sandra shared the developing vision for AFROSAMBA with Biam, including the collection’s colour scheme and its exploration of the cultural connections between Nigeria and Brazil. From that conversation, Biam created a special series of bracelets exclusively for IFFIZI SS27, developing colour combinations specifically to complement the collection.
The result is a vivid palette of cobalt blue, purple, black, green, gold, orange and pink, translated into substantial textile bracelets that can hold their own alongside IFFIZI’s Adire, Aso-Oke and strong silhouettes. Biam’s wider practice transforms textiles, loose threads and fabric remnants into expressive handcrafted accessories through techniques including crochet and embroidery. His work brings together fashion, art and sustainability while exploring memory, resilience, identity and reinvention.
AFROSAMBA heads to London
IFFIZI will present AFROSAMBA at the 16th edition of Africa Fashion Week London on 22 August 2026, marking the brand’s return to the London runway during its tenth anniversary year. The collection is a vibrant exploration of Afro-Brazilian culture and the Yoruba heritage connecting Nigeria and Brazil, interpreted through IFFIZI’s characteristic combination of strong silhouettes, textiles, colour and movement.

The London presentation is only the beginning of the next chapter for AFROSAMBA. In October, IFFIZI plans a fashion show in Abuja, alongside the launch of IFFIZI Salon, the brand’s new showroom. The collection will then travel to Europe for pop-ups in Brussels, Antwerp and Zurich in November, before returning to Nigeria for another show in Lagos in December and then finally to Brazil for a show in Salvador de Bahia at the end of January 2027.
The histories connecting Nigeria and Bahia stretch back centuries. IFFIZI x Biam Dhifá brings that conversation firmly into the present — and onto the runway.
