Nigeria’s multiple award winning Afro-fusion superstar Burna Boy releases his album Twice As Tall on 14 August.
The fifteen track album has Diddy, Bosede Ogulu (his mother) and Burna Boy himself as Executive Producers, with tracks: ‘Level Up (Twice As Tall)’, ‘No Fit Vex’, ‘Alarm Clock’,’23’, ‘Time Flies’ and others, mostly recorded in Lagos during the months of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Twice As Tall, Burna Boy’s fifth album features international artists including Youssou N’Dour, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Sauti Sol, Stormzy and Naughty by Nature, produced by Timbaland, Mike Dean and others released on Spaceship/Bad Habit/Atlantic/Warner labels.
Burna Boy in Twice As Tall highlights his success, perseverance, vulnerabilities, desires and determination against all odds as an African.
The star said in a post on social media, “Honestly, no title cause I wanted the art to speak for itself, this album was a journey through a bunch of emotions and energies at different points in time. It has now morphed into something bigger than me. It serves as a bridge for mankind to show that we’re all different but still very much the same. I’m grateful for the unreal talents that came together from ALL over the world to pull this off. Shout out to the OG @diddy for coming on board and sprinkling his own unique spice on this! I hope I’m able to spark something in you when you listen.”
A month ago, the single ‘Wonderful’ off the Twice As Tall album was released and has been well received by fans that have been anxiously anticipating the new project. Following his Grammy loss to Angelique Kidjo, the ‘Gbona’ singer had disclosed that the title of his next project will be ‘Twice as Tall’ – which suggested he knows better now. “So now I’m ‘Twice as Tall’. That’s the name of my next album.”
Not only has Burna Boy released this new album, it is accompanied by a comic on Youtube called “The Secret Flame” narrated by his grandfather, Benson Idonije, who managed iconic Afrobeat music pioneer Fela Kuti.
This is really informative! Well done!
Thank you so much, my mentor.
