The Nigerian Afro-fusion superstar Burna Boy bags the award for Best Global Music Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony.
Burna Boy’s Twice as Tall album, he beat his fellow nominees, Antibalas, Anushka Shankar, Tinariwen and Bebel Gilberto.
This marks his first career Grammy win. He the first winner of the recently recently rebranded category, it was formerly known as Best World Music Album.
His heart-warming acceptance speech is given in English and Yoruba. “Yes oh! Yes oh! Yes oh! Africa is in the house men! Africa, we are in the House. This is a big win for my generation of Africans all over the world and this should be a lesson to every African out there: No matter where you are, no matter what you plan to do, you can achieve it.”
Meanwhile, Wizkid, won a Grammy for the Best Music Video’ for his role in Brown Skin Girl, Beyonce’s 2019 hit song. He won the award alongside Beyonce, Blue Ivy, SAINt JHN
Later, Burna Boy delivered his three-track performance, shot at the National Theater Lagos to close out the Premiere Ceremony.
