These communities are faced with the impact of an invasive seaweed that is blocking their daily lives. The Lagos Lagoon Climate Response Project aims to address climate change at local level by transforming waste to wealth, promote better local practices in terms of water management and sanitation, generate employment and impact the lives of children attending public schools in these communities as well as support public health service provision.

An important component of the project is to increase public awareness of the impact of climate change on villages along the Lagos Lagoon. An exhibition will be organized to showcase artwork and boost the economic livelihood of the communities.

Eyes of a Lagos Boy, Bolaji Alonge, has been documenting the impact of water hyacinth in Lagos since 2018. See https://eyesofalagosboy.com/2021/11/05/greener-pastures-multimedia-exhibition-the-report/

The project is implemented by Help Africa Initiatives (HAI) in collaboration with Eyes of a Lagos Boy, Mitimeth, EcoLearn, LASWA, Healthnika, Crown Troupe of Africa and The Sickle Cell Foundation. The project is supported by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will currently run until April 2025.
