Photo of the Week: Glimmering Five Cowrie Creek

Glimmering Five Cowrie Creek
Victoria Island Lagos – Eyes of a Lagos Boy

For the year’s first edition, Photo of the Week is an enthusiastic showcase of our beloved city, Lagos.

Titled ‘Glimmering Five Cowrie Creek’. The night shots of the sparse clouds over Lagos are mirrored vividly by the Lagoon, and right in between the elements lies the cityscape of Victoria Island casting dramatic lighting that bounces off the surface of the water.

Five Cowrie Creek is an area characterized by its unique geographic features and socio-economic significance. It acts as a natural boundary between Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Lekki, with three bridges at different points; Independence Bridge, Five Cowrie Bridge (Falomo Bridge) and Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge.

The creek starts at Lekki-Ikoyi link Bridge to McEwen (pronounced Mekuwen) at Bonny Camp  Independence Bridge into the Commodore Channel. It is lined by hotels, restaurants, highbrow residences and offices. Five Cowrie Creek serves as an important waterway that facilitates marine activities, transportation, and trade routes in the bustling city of Lagos.

The creek is named after the price of the ferry ticket, set up between Onikan and Reclamation Point, over a century ago.
